The generosity of Londoners was on full display over the busy holiday season, according to the Salvation Army.
On Tuesday, officials announced the annual Kettle Campaign brought in a record high $648,173, easily surpassing its goal of $500,000.
Officials say they also set a record for online donations with just over $10,000 raised in London through FillTheKettle.com
“We are blown away by the generosity of Londoners,” said Shannon Wise, the Public Relations & Development Representative for the Ontario Great Lakes Division.” We want to sincerely thank our donors and our volunteers for their kindness and dedication.”
Money raised in London is used to support local families at Christmas time. The Salvation Army Hamper Program was able to provide food hampers to 5,117 local families and 6,663 children received a bag of toys.
Nationally, the campaign raised $23.2 million, surpassing the goal of $21 million.
