London’s Diamond Aircraft plant has landed a big deal.
On Tuesday, Diamond Aircraft Canada announced Wanfeng Aviation Inc., a division of a Chinese conglomerate, acquired a 60 % interest in the company.
As part of the investment, production of Diamond’s twin-engine DA62 and the single engine DA40 will move from Austria to the London manufacturing plant by the end of 2017.
The scope of the investment in London’s Diamond Aircraft also includes D-JET Corp. The future of the D-Jet or any potential spinoff aircraft is subject to ongoing review, according to company officials.
Peter Maurer will continue as CEO of Diamond Aircraft Canada while Frank Chen of the Wanfeng group of companies has been appointed Chairman.
Maurer told the London Free Press he expects the company to double its employment over the next 18 months.
“This investment not only strengthens our Canadian operations, but the Diamond brand overall,” said a statement from Diamond Aircraft.
All current models produced by Diamond Canada and Diamond Austria will continue to be branded as “Diamond Aircraft.
