After receiving numerous complaints and calls from concerned citizens, the London Police Service is reminding the public that they will never send you an email notifying you of a traffic violation.
The email scam (example pictured) involves individuals receiving an email with details about a particular traffic violation, with an attached link that the receiver can click on in order to “view” the ticket.
“Do not click the link in the email,” Constable Sandasha Bough urges.
“This allows the sender of the email to be able to access any personal and financial information on the computer. In some cases, a virus or malware is added to the computer.”
Police urge the public to always be cautious of anyone asking for personal or financial information and to never provide personal or financial information to anyone unless you know who you are providing it to.
Victims of fraud are also urged to contact the London Police Service Fraud Intake Line at 519-661-5515 ext. 5257 as your information can help protect others from potentially becoming a victim of fraud.
