The body of a male recovered from the waters of Westminster Ponds early Monday afternoon has been identified by police as the 19-year-old Simcoe man who went missing over the weekend.
In a release early Wednesday evening, authorities said an autopsy had been completed and that police and the Office of the Chief Coroner had confirmed the identity of the deceased male as Adam Nigh of Simcoe.
The cause and manner of Nigh’s death remain under investigation, but no foul play is suspected, police said.
It was around 3 a.m. Sunday when police say Nigh and two others, a 21-year-old male and 19-year-old female, were out on the water in a canoe when it overturned.
The 21-year-old and 19-year-old, both of London, managed to make it back to shore, but Nigh did not. None of the three were wearing life jackets.
Officials from London Police, London Fire, and Ontario Provincial Police searched the area on Sunday and Monday, using drones, boats, and divers.
Police located Nigh’s body just before 2 p.m. Monday, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
