Thousands of Londoners will get a good workout Thursday while supporting a great local cause.
Around 2,000 people are expected to climb the stairs of One London Place for the ScotiaBank United Way Stair Climb, in support of the organization’s annual fundraising campaign.
CEO of the United Way of London and Middlesex, Kelly Ziegner, said this event is massive for their organization for a number of reasons.
“Last year raised over $230,000 toward our campaign, but more importantly what it does is it gets people talking about the campaign and energized about it, so people are raising pledges online, sharing that information on Facebook and Twitter and connecting with friends and colleagues, so it really helps to keep the energy about the campaign going,” said Ziegner.
Climbers hit the stairs at 7a.m. Thursday and they’ll continue until 7p.m. One London Place is the tallest building in the city.
This year’s fundraising goal for the United Way of London and Middlesex is $9.172-million.
