Perth County OPP say a 43 year old man was transported to hospital with serious injuries following a collision between a car and a horse drawn buggy.
Emergency crews responded to the crash on Perth Line 72 in the village of Newton just after 2 p.m. Thursday.
The investigation has determined the buggy was travelling westbound when the driver lost control of the inexperienced horse. Police say the horse went into the oncoming lane and was then struck by a car that was also travelling westbound. The buggy driver was ejected onto the roadway as a result of the impact.
The driver, a 43 year old man from Perth East, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
OPP did not provide an update on the condition of the horse.
