Downtown Leamington was evacuated for a few hours on Saturday after a major underground gas leak was reported.
Essex County OPP say the natural gas eruption near the intersection of Erie Street and Mill Street was reported at 1:15 p.m. Police soon evacuated much of the downtown core.
Officials say the leak was soon repaired and the area was reopened to the public at about 3:30 p.m.
Mill Street West between Fox Street and Erie Street North was closed for several hours afterward to allow Union Gas to fill in a hole where the repair was made.
No one was injured and no property was damaged as a result of the incident.
