As of 10:21a.m. Thursday, we’ll officially say goodbye to the summer of 2016 and hello to autumn.
The fall equinox will arrive, even though you wouldn’t know if from the forecast. It calls for a high of 28 degrees Thursday.
Friday will likely be a little more moderate with a high of 24 expected, and 19 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.
Environment Canada’s Peter Kimbell tells AM980 there’s been a lot of variability in the forecast.
“We are right now in a warm phase, so we’ve had a warm month of August, and September has been warm so far as well, and it looks like we’re heading into a more moderate, and more normal phase in the next month or two,” he said.
So you may not need your mittens and scarves right away, but Kimbell notes chilly weather is inevitable.
“It’s gradually going to cool down as cooler air floods in from the north,” Kimbell said. “It’s a bit of a yo-yo.”
Kimbell also notes the London region received a little more than double the amount of rain we usually would in August with about 170mm falling.
