More great news for country music fans here in London.
The Forest City was officially named Tuesday as the host of the 2017 Country Music Association of Ontario’s Conference and Awards Show.
The announcement comes just over a week before London welcomes fans and performers for the 2016 CCMA Country Music Week, which kicks off September 8th.
In fact, London’s efforts to land Country Music Week and other events helped convince officials with the CMAO to bring it here next year.
“We did a CMAO showcase last spring here, it was very well received, and the talent pool is so rich in Ontario and London and they got a really good sense, you know, we did a showcase at the Bull and Barrell in March of this year and it was packed and it was a great night and that really helped resonate with developing artists,” said Tourism London’s Director of Culture and Entertainment Tourism, Chris Campbell.
The previous four editions of the event were held in Markham.
“It’s an event that we’ve been in discussions on for a while with the CMAO and really making the case that London is the market to help build and grow that event, we’re a hot-bed of country music fans, also London is a great test market, and so when you’re profiling these new artists, what better city?” said Campbell.
The 2017 CMAO Awards on June 11th at Centennial Hall will be preceded by a weekend of activities, launching with the official CMAO kick-off on Friday, June 9th and the R2I TuneUp Conference, June 10-11 at the Delta London Armouries Hotel.
Canadian Country star Jason McCoy will host the awards, while a full line-up of performers and award nominees will be announced in April, 2017.
