Residents in Old North may get a bit of a surprise when they turn on their faucets over the next couple of days.
City crews are flushing water mains in the area Wednesday through Friday to get rid of iron and rust build-up so your water supply may look a little discoloured.
Dan Huggins, London’s manager of water quality, told AM980 the water will look different but is safe to drink.
“We’re going to be running some hydrants to remove this rust, the rust isn’t a health concern it’s simply iron but the water looks bad.”
Huggins said their work should wrap up by 3 p.m. in the afternoon Wednesday through Friday so residents will be able to resume normal water usage after that time.
Huggins added Londoners may want to hold off on doing laundry until they are finished in the afternoon.
“If anyone is doing laundry doing the day time over the next three times, when this rusty water could occur, you may stain the laundry so we’re hoping to avoid that.”
If residents notice discolouration after 3 p.m. over the next three days, Huggins advises Londoners to give the city a call.
