Swiss police say a 27-year-old man who attacked train passengers with a knife and a burning liquid has died of his wounds.
Police are still searching for a motive, but say there’s no indication the suspect, identified only as a 27-year-old Swiss man from a neighbouring region, had ties to extremist groups.
A 34-year-old woman died Sunday after she and four others were attacked with a knife and a burning liquid aboard the crowded train.
Three others, including a six-year-old child, remained in critical condition Sunday with life-threatening wounds, St. Gallen canton (state) police spokesman Hans-Peter Kruesi told The Associated Press.
Kruesi said that so far police have found no indications he had ties to extremist groups.
The attack occurred Saturday afternoon as the train neared the station in Salez, close to the Liechtenstein border.
Police say the suspect, identified as a Swiss man from a neighbouring canton who was not known to police, is seen on video attacking passengers with the burning liquid and a knife, injuring seven in all.
