A report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal suggests that the newest NHL franchise has looked north of the border for a team name.
Steve Carp reports that Las Vegas team owner Bill Foley has been mulling over options about what the team name should be and what its symbol should look like.
Foley is said to be looking at four names and logos, down from a possible 18.
One of those names is believed to be the “Knights” in some capacity, though Foley is keeping his options a secret.
However, he says the “Las Vegas Knights” is unlikely because the London Knights own the rights to the name in Canada.
“The London Knights own the name in Canada, and to acquire the name from London is not economically feasible,” Foley said to the Review-Journal. “In the U.S., ‘Knights’ are fine. But we can’t use it in Canada.”
Attempts to reach London Knights owner Dale Hunter were said to be unsuccessful.
Foley said he hopes to have “more clarity” in the next 30 days.
