Ontario Provincial Police say their search for a missing swimmer in Canadian waters at the western end of Lake Erie near Harrow Township is now a recovery effort.
Officials say a 56-year-old Michigan woman was out on a boat with some friends on Sunday afternoon.
Two members of the group were swimming near the boat when one struggled and went under the surface, according to investigators.
Police say they’re using a side scan sonar to search the water near the Colchester Harbour south of Essex.
The OPP will be joined by the Canadian and U.S. Coast Guards, the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, several fire departments and volunteers in the search effort.
