After three days of searching, Elgin County OPP have confirmed the body of the missing 18-year-old swimmer has been recovered in Port Stanley.
The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Elgin County OPP and the Central Elgin Fire Services located and removed the young man’s body from the water at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as William Johnston of Ingersoll, Ontario.
Members from emergency service agencies responded to an incident on Thursday around 3:50 p.m. concerning swimmers that appeared to be in distress in the water.
Johnston failed to return to shore.
In an effort to assist the family, a family friend has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
Any money that’s left over will be donated to Victim Services of Elgin County.
