A sea of red and green filled London’s downtown core Sunday night as soccer fans celebrated Portugal’s victory at the Euro Cup championship.
Hundreds of fans poured onto the streets of Richmond, Oxford, and Dufferin for an impromptu celebration.
Portugal defeated France 1-nil in a nail biting thriller to claim their first ever European championship.
The celebration was especially sweet based on how Portugal won. Captain Cristiano Ronaldo left the game with an injury in the 25th minute, depriving the Portugese of their best player.
Eder, a striker who plays for French club Lille, scored the only goal of the game in the 109th minute.
A second-half substitute, Eder scored only his fourth goal in 29 appearances for Portugal with a low shot from 25 metres past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
The championship is Portugal’s first major trophy.
