London Police say they are particularly concerned for the well-being of the mother of a deceased baby found in a garbage dumpster Thursday morning.
Police got a call from a citizen around 11:30 a.m. Thursday to reports of a dead infant in a dumpster behind the apartment building at 675 Richmond St. near Mill St.
When they arrived, police confirmed that a deceased baby was found in the garbage.
Police called the circumstances surrounding the incident “unusual.”
The Major Crime Section has taken over the investigation and an autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.
The baby has been determined to be a newborn, according to police, though it’s not clear how old. The baby’s gender has not been released.
Police are appealing to the public for any information in identifying the parents of the infant.
“Without proper medical care, the mother may be in significant pain, may be bleeding internally, and is at-risk of a serious infection,” said Cst. Sandasha Bough.
Anyone with information is asked to contact London Police at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
