Tragically Hip fans grappling with the sad revelation of Gord Downie’s terminal brain cancer diagnosis will get some good news as the band has released their summer tour schedule.
The iconic Canadian rock band’s managers say Downie is determined to “blow people’s minds” with their final tour.
The summer tour in support of their new album, “Man Machine Poem”, releasing on June 17th. The 10-date tour will kick off July 22nd in Victoria, BC. The band will head east across the country from there, with an August 8th date scheduled for London at Budweiser Gardens.
The final show will be at the band’s hometown of Kingston on August 20th.
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 3rd at 11 a.m.
“The Tragically Hip, without a doubt, are probably number one, if not the top three acts with Rush and Guess Who,” said Brad Jones of Jones Entertainment Group, organizers of Rock the Park shows in London.
“They are a staple in the Canadian music business.”
In a statement posted on the group’s website Tuesday morning, the Tragically Hip announced Gord Downie was diagnosed in December.
The head of neurology at Toronto’s Sunnybrook hospital dismissed the possibility of a complete recovery for Downie, saying that although the tumour has been receptive to treatment, it will one day return.
But for now, Dr. James Perry says Downie has been cleared to perform and “medical contingencies” will be in place throughout the tour.
