A push to encourage builders to add green roofs to their development plans will be studied by London city staff.
Ward 13 Councillor Tanya Park brought forward a proposal Monday night that would allow green roofs to count as green space that developers are required to work into their buildings.
“If we were to give them an allowance to consider green roofs as part of the overall open landscape designation that would remove that from the process itself,” Park says. “It would be giving proponents better encouragement to incorporate green roofs into their development.”
In addition, as Park explains, there would be many benefits for the community.
“I think having a green space is very attractive to everyone — should you have a pet, should you have small children in your family.”
Staff will study the proposal and report back to London’s planning and environment committee.
