The cause of a barn fire in Brockton Wednesday night that resulted in damages and loss of more than $500,000 remains unknown, but does not appear to be suspicious, South Bruce OPP said Thursday.
OPP and members of the Elmwood Fire Department County responded to the blaze at a rural cattle farm on Concession 12, near Walkerton, around 9:19 p.m.
Details remain scarce, but according to investigators, the fire destroyed the barn which had been housing dairy cattle and farm equipment. Fifty cows and 20 calves perished as a result of the fire, police said.
No further information has been released about the incident, but OPP say the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted.
The investigation is ongoing.
