Huron County OPP officers are investigating the discovery of three deceased dogs at the Hay Swamp, located at the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, just west of Exeter.
OPP were contacted just after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday by a group of rabbit hunters who came across the dogs lying in the ditch approximately 100m south of the intersection of Parr Line and Rodgerville Road.
“There were tracks leading down to them. We checked them out. It looked like they were shot. There was blood, but it looked like they were dumped there, because there wasn’t enough blood for them to have been shot there. It was clear someone had just gotten rid of them,” said one of the hunters who spoke with AM980 on condition of anonymity.
The hunter who stumbled upon the dogs posted a photo to Facebook.
“I don’t even know where they would have come from. I have never seen any dogs like that in the area,” he added.
In a media release issued Wednesday evening, OPP confirmed the male dogs had all been shot in the head. Investigators say two of the dogs were mixed breed hounds and one of the dogs was a purebred Walkerhound. Two were light brown in colour and one was primarily white with light brown patches.
