A 68-year-old Norfolk County woman has died following a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in Simcoe on Thursday, Norfolk OPP said.
The collision, which remains under investigation, occurred just after 2 p.m. on South Drive between John Street and Kent Street South, police said.
According to investigators, the 68-year-old woman had been walking west along the South Drive sidewalk when she was struck by a pick-up truck that had been reversing southbound out of a driveway.
“As a result, the 68-year-old female suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending coroner,” police said in a release.
The driver of the pick-up truck, an 83-year-old Norfolk County man, was not injured.
Members of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigator team are assisting with the investigation, and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, South Drive will be closed until at least 10 p.m. between John Street and Kent Street South.
