With the OHL trade deadline fast approaching, London Knights General Manager Basil McRae completed his second trade in as many days.
On Thursday, the Knights acquired the rights to Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Sonny Milano from the Flint Firebirds in exchange for a draft pick.
The initial price is a conditional 15th-round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection but that jumps to a fourth-round pick in 2016 and second-round pick in 2019 if Milano plays for the Knights in one regular season or playoff game.
The 19-year-old winger is currently playing for the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL after helping the U.S. to a bronze medal at the world juniors.
In 22 games with Lake Erie this season, Milano has scored 4 goals and added 7 assists.
A native of Massapequa, N.Y., Milano was taken 16th overall by Columbus in the 2014 NHL draft. Because he was drafted prior to appearing in the OHL, he is able to play in the AHL.
On Wednesday, the Knights bolstered their defence by acquiring over-age blueliner Jacob Graves and Kingston’s 3rd round pick in 2018 from Oshawa for 17 year old forward Eric Henderson.
The OHL’s trade deadline is Monday at 12 p.m. while the over-age trade deadline is Friday at 12 p.m.
