More than 40 racehorses have persished in a stable fire in Puslinch, about 15 kilometres east of Cambridge.
Firefighters from Guelph and Hamilton responded to the fire at Classy Lane Stables at around 11 p.m. Monday.
Barb Miller, who owns the training centre with her husband, estimates at least 43 animals were killed in the blaze.
Miller, who spoke to The Canadian Press from Florida where the couple is vacationing, said her husband was trying to get home immediately after they were notified.
Firefighters remain at the scene Tuesday morning.
There is no word on the cause of the fire at this time.
Classy Lane Stables has been in operation for over 12 years, and has five barns that can hold 222 horses.
Miller said the horses are standardbreds that race at the Mohawk, Woodbine and Flamboro Downs tracks in southern Ontario.
