London Police have laid impaired driving charges after a driver with two young kids in the vehicle tried to evade a RIDE check.
A ride stop was set up at Riverside Drive and Wilson Avenue on Sunday evening.
At around 7:30 that night, a driver approaching the check suddenly pulled into a laneway and turned around.
Cst. Ken Steeves tells AM980 an officer followed the vehicle north onto Wharncliffe Road.
“When the officer pulled the vehicle over he determined that the driver had consumed some alcohol. He issued the roadside screening device and determined with that test that the driver did fail. At which point he was arrested and taken to cells,” Steeves explains.
“What’s more concerning than somebody behind the wheel after consuming alcohol is there were two young kids in the back of the vehicle as well.”
The children were left in the care of a woman who was also in the vehicle. The man was taken to police headquarters where it was determined he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
An unidentified 33-year-old London man is facing impaired driving charges.
