London Police say the driver of a wrong-way vehicle involved in a head-on crash this morning was drunk.

It happened around 2:45AM when a car, heading south in the northbound lanes of Highbury near Hamilton, slammed into an oncoming SUV.

Two women in the SUV, and the man behind the wheel of the car heading the wrong direction, were taken to hospital. Police have described the injuries as non-life threatening.

29-year-old Luis Moreno-Herrera has been arrested and charged.

He's facing one count of impaired driving.

This crash comes just ahead of the long weekend and Police are reminding people they'll have RIDE spot checks set up across the city over the next few days.

In addition, Sunday morning will be the first day of the new law for young drivers. Anyone under the age of 22, regardless of what kind of license they have, is not allowed to have a drop of alcohol in their system while behind the wheel. Offenders will receive a 24 hour license suspension and a $110 ticket.
