Catching up with an Olympic star

Posted 1/31/2011 5:00:00 AM
Speed skater Christine Nesbitt had every reason to take it easy this World Cup season.

Nearly a year ago, the London native captured gold in the 1,000 metres at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

A post-Olympic hangover would almost seem inevitable, especially when you consider the fact she won the gold on home soil as Canadians watched from coast to coast.

She split from her long-time coach Marcel Lacroix who decided to retire after the Olympics.

This past summer, the 25-year-old was involved in a car accident.  She suffered a fractured elbow after an SUV struck her bike while she was riding in Calgary.

Despite these obstacles, Nesbitt has been unstoppable on the oval track this World Cup season.

This past weekend in Moscow, Nesbitt reigned supreme again.

Last year's Vancouver winter games provided Canadians with a number of amazing moments.

Russia Deserved The Gold

Choke job, historic collapse, meltdown, epic fail...

That's pretty much how Canadians summed up Wednesday night's gold medal game.

The consensus among the fans, media, and even the players who were on the ice in Buffalo seemed to be this:  Canada didn't win silver, they lost the gold.

40 years of great hockey moments ranging from Paul Henderson's goal to Jordan Eberle's have reinforced those beliefs.

Lost in the haze of Canada's painful defeat is the heart and pride showed by Russia.

They started coming on in the 2nd period, and well, you don't need me to rehash what happened in the 3rd.

Every time Canada pulls off a dramatic ...

Home Run King A Victim Of His Own Success

Posted 8/25/2010 7:00:00 AM

Toronto Blue Jays breakout star Jose Bautista has bashed his way to the top of the MLB home run list this season (40 and counting as I write this) and unknowingly trotted right into the steroid debate.

The Toronto Star's Damien Cox pretty much took a Louisville slugger to Bautista's reputation by raising suspicions that his dramatic power surge could be attributed to steroid use.

On twitter, Cox defended the piece by pointing out that he's doing what all "good" reporters do -- asking questions. Somehow he thinks he's not accusing Bautista of cheating even though he compares his performance this season to one of the poster boys of baseball's steroid era, Brady Anderson. Sure, Damien.

Like most Jays fans who have enjoyed this year’s homer happy team, I was furious when I read his blog. Afterall, Bautista has never failed a drug test, right? No teammates, opponents, trainers, coaches ...
