Nash Jewellers is looking forward to reopening in the New Year, following two robberies in two weeks.
The latest heist happened on Wednesday December 28nd around 4 p.m. when multiple suspects walked into the store at the corner of Oxford and Wonderland smashed the display case and took off.
Store Manager Bryan Nash says they’ll be making security changes in the New Year.
“It’s unfortunate that this happened, we have loved our new location, but the staff handled everything perfectly well. I’m very proud of my staff, I’m proud of the customers that were in the store when it happened. We’re going to make a few changes; we’re going to have an interlocking door, and were also going to put a guard in the vestibule as well.”
The same store was the scene of a similar crime back on December 14th. In that case, police say one suspect entered the store, stole an undisclosed quantity of jewellery.
“A few of the staff members had to live through it twice, and others experienced it for the first time. And experiencing something like this is never easy,” Nash said. “We are in the jewellery business, these types of things can happen. We’ve built a building that we felt was as good as you can get and it just shows we can do things a little bit better. We built Fort Knox but were just going to have to tweak it a little. We just want to make sure everyone is safe and happy, and I think were on the right path.”
No arrests have been made and investigators haven’t said whether they believe the two robberies are connected.
Nash Jewellers will reopen to customers next Tuesday January 3.
“We appreciate all the loyal customers of Nash Jewellers,” Nash says. “We’ve been in business for 98 years, we look forward to the next 100 years. We’ve built a great building here, were very proud of it and we’re making all the changed necessary for us to move forward.”
“We’re very happy. We’ve gad a little hiccup in the year, but we will grow strong from it.”
