If Santa brings you a drone for Christmas this year, a local MP wants to help ensure you play safe.
Kate Young, the MP for London West and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, will be making a drone safety announcement Wednesday morning at the Fanshawe College Aviation Centre at the London International Airport.
Young will be there to highlight initiatives aimed at drone safety on behalf of the Minister of Transportation Marc Garneau.
There have been several recent cases of close encounters between drones and commercial aircraft which has prompted a number of warnings from officials.
Current guidelines from Transport Canada require that drones not be flown within 9 kilometers of forest fires, or airports. They’re also not allowed to fly over military bases, prisons or large crowds.
It’s also illegal to fly a drone higher than 90 meters in the air.
The announcement begins at 10a.m.
