Middlesex OPP say a 41-year-old London man has been charged in connection to an alleged sexual assault earlier this month in an Uber vehicle.
Police say they were contacted about the incident around 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 4.
According to investigators, a 21-year-old London woman had called for a vehicle through the ride-sharing service and was being driven to her destination in Southwest Middlesex when police allege she was sexually assaulted in the vehicle by the male driver.
The driver was arrested by police at the scene.
As a result, Islam Soliman, 41, of London has been charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement and is slated to appear in London court on Dec. 22, police said.
“Personal safety is a concern for all of us. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, and do not place yourself in situations which might jeopardize your safety,” said police in a media release.
“When using transportation services and/or public transportation, use caution in conversations. Avoid being alone if you can; get a friend to accompany you. If they can’t, let them know the route you’re taking, call when you arrive, or have someone meet you at your stop.”
