A solidarity rally will take place Saturday afternoon in Victora Park for the victims and those currently affected by the Aleppo crisis.
The Syrian Canadian Council of London is set to host the rally from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting at the main gates. The rally’s Facebook event page can be found here.
The rally will be followed by an interfaith event at the London Muslim Mosque on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
“There have been a lot of people in the [London] community calling each other, calling each other at different local institutions, very worried and anxious to do something for the people of Aleppo and Syria,” Omar Fayoumi, one of the people behind the rally, told AM980 on Saturday. “Most people feel these violations affect them on a visceral level.”
The rally comes hours after reports of a possible deal that could help restart the stalled evacuations of Aleppo. The media arm of Hezbollah and a monitoring group say the opposition will allow humanitarian cases” to leave two besieged government-held villages.
The Aleppo evacuation was suspended yesterday, after reports of a shooting at a crossing point by both sides in the conflict.
Aleppo has been at the heart of fighting between the President Bashar Al-Assad government and anti-government fighters since the conflict began five years ago.
