A member of the jury in the Dumont-Bakker case has died by suicide this week.
Sources confirmed to AM980 one of the female jurors died after the trial in the scalding death of 20-month-old Ryker Daponte-Michaud was declared a mistrial on Monday.
Superior Court Justice Johanne Morissette declared a mistrial primarily because Dumont wasn’t able to fully participate following a recent surgery for appendicitis, as well as other scheduling conflicts.
Jurors saw disturbing evidence during the four weeks of trial, and counselling was offered to them should they desire it.
Baby Ryker died three days after being scalded by hot coffee on May 21, 2014. His mother, 30-year-old Amanda Dumont, and her former partner, 27-year-old Scott Bakker, were charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life and criminal negligence causing death.
A new trail is set to begin on June 5th, 2017.
