Huron OPP have identified the passenger killed and the driver injured in a crash on London Road just west of Vanastra.
At around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, investigators say the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu was travelling southbound on London Road (Hwy 4) maneuvered around vehicles waiting to turn left onto 7th Avenue by passing on the gravel shoulder.
The driver lost control of the car as he entered back onto the roadway, crossed into the northbound lane, and was struck on the passenger side by an armoured truck.
The passenger, 17-year-old Bethany Blanchard of Clinton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Blanchard was a student at Central Huron Secondary School, which made counselors available for students in need after her passing.
“All os us are feeling a deep sense of loss today because a very dear and much-loved member of our family has been taken from us,” said CHSS principal George McEwan in a statement. “Bethany Blanchard was a beautiful soul who brought happiness and goodness to us every day, and she helped all of us, especially her friends, look forward to spending days with her.
“Bethany deserved a long and full life, and we will miss her very much.”
The driver, 19-year-old Nicholas Dimmers of Clinton, is in a London hospital with life-threatening injuries.
