Downtown London will get into the festive spirit Friday night with the official ‘Lighting of the Lights’ ceremony in Victoria Park.
Thousands are expected to turn out as caroling kicks off the big event around 6:15 p.m. with the official flipping of the switch taking place at 6:50 p.m. The lights will be on Nov. 25 to Dec. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. On New Year’s Eve, the city says the lights will turn on at 5:30 p.m. and stay on throughout the night as revelers ring in 2017.
Those looking to take in the view from a higher vantage point can utilize the City Hall Promenade Deck, which will be open every night from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. starting Friday. The deck will be closed Dec. 6, 19, 25, 26, 31, and New Year’s Day, according to the city.
Throughout the month of December, Londoners can also take in Victoria Park’s traditional festive decorations and free outdoor skating rink. The city says the rink will officially open next Friday, weather permitting, and will run daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
