London’s best kept secret tourist attraction is expanding.
The Hamilton Road Tree Trunk Tour is featured on Tourism London’s website, but many residents may not even know about the project.
There are 21 unique carvings across the city, but most are along Hamilton Road.
The newest addition to the tour, the “Diversi-Tree” is a 15 ft tall, 3,000lbs carving out of solid walnut featuring 23 carved animals.
Project Manager for the Hamilton Road Area Business Association Dave Broostad said the tour is a big attraction.
“People who come to London go to the Tourism London website and it’s a major thing,” he said. “I have people coming from all over the world, over the weekend I ran into four ladies that were walking it. When people come to London, one of the things they do is they drive up Hamilton Road and check out all the tree carvings.”
Broostad said the idea started 5 or 6 years ago.
“Each one has their own story, who carved it, what it means, what kind of tree it was, where it came from, it’s a cool thing to do with the kids,” Broostad said. “Pokemon Go is a passe thing now but every single one of them ended up being a Pokemon Go station, so they’re all on Google Maps, it’s cool.”
The Diversi-Tree will be officially unveiled at 11a.m. Thursday morning at the Hamilton Rd. Seniors’ Community Centre and everyone is welcome to attend.
