Oxford County OPP say a tractor trailer was on its side and blocking all lanes of the highway. A detour was put in place at Oxford Road 59. Within two hours, traffic was allowed to detour at Mill Street.
Traffic was diverted through Woodstock to Foldens Line to return to the 401 for several hours before lanes began reopening.
Police say drivers of all three vehicles were transported to hospital; the driver of the minivan is believed to have serious but non life-threatening injuries. No information about the identities of the drivers has been released at this time.
Oxford OPP Cst. Stacey Culbert spoke with AM980, saying roughly 450 gallons or over 1700 litres of diesel oil spilled from the transport.
“Ministry of Environment’s been on scene as well as the roads in the area,” says Culbert.
“Everything has to be done according to safety standards to make sure this spill is contained and cleaned up as well. We don’t want the motoring public to be entering back onto the highway to unsafe road conditions.”
As of 3 p.m., only one westbound lane remained closed. The eastbound side of the highway was unaffected.
