Cleveland touched up Jays starter Marco Estrada early as Mike Napoli got the offence started with an RBI double in the top of the first inning. Carlos Santana hit a solo home run in the third inning while Coco Crisp launched a solo blast off Estrada in the fourth inning.
Indians rookie starter Ryan Merritt frustrated the Blue Jays, allowing just two hits and striking out three over 4 1/3 innings before turning it over to Cleveland’s formidable bullpen.
Estrada pitched six innings, surrendering two earned runs over five hits while striking out seven.
Reliever Andrew Miller was named ALCS MVP.
Last year, the Blue Jays lost to the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS.
