Essex OPP say no injuries were reported after a tractor trailer lost control and flipped onto its side as it was merging onto the eastbound 401 late Wednesday morning near Tilbury.
The incident happened around 10:15 a.m. at the Essex County Road 42 interchange, police said.
According to investigators, the truck, a white Freightliner, had been merging onto the highway and was carrying a load of baking soda when it suddenly lost control, flipped over, and came to a rest in the eastbound lanes of the 401.
The incident snarled traffic for several hours, and the contents of the tractor trailer had to be off-loaded by hand, police said.
The blocked eastbound lanes of the 401 and the eastbound on-ramp have since been reopened, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
