A fatal collision on Highway 402 that closed the busy roadway and snarled traffic for almost two days is nearly cleared up.
OPP Sgt. Dave Rektor said Tuesday afternoon that all lanes of the highway could be reopened by 5 p.m.
The crash, which happened Monday morning around 7:30 a.m., claimed the life of the driver of a fuel truck.
Investigators say the truck was headed eastbound when the driver lost control near Wonderland Rd.
Jagjit Singh Deol, 28 of Brampton, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The crash forced the eastbound lanes of the 402 closed at Wonderland Rd.
Since then, police have opened one westbound lane and traffic is said to be moving well through the area.
“We have numerous dump trucks arriving to the scene, pouring in fresh soil that needs to be put into the centre median to make this safe for us to open up the highway,” said Sgt. Rektor.
The Ministry of the Environment has been contacted because “there are some environmental concerns at this point,” according to Rektor.
