Nearly three weeks after a crash involving a motorcycle and a van near Port Burwell left one man dead and five others injured, Elgin County OPP have laid charges.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Richmond Road and Vienna Line at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 18th to reports of a crash.
Police say a black Honda motorcycle travelling northbound on Richmond Road was struck by a blue Chrysler van that was travelling westbound on Vienna Line. Police say Vienna Line is governed by stop signs.
The driver of the motorcycle, 41-year-old John Masales of Malahide Township, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle, an unidentified 37-year-old Malahide Township man, was taken to hospital in serious condition.
The 18-year-old woman driving the van as well as her three female passengers all between the ages of 16 and 18-years-old, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
On Friday, Elgin County OPP announced charges have been laid against the driver of the van.
Sara Hildebrant-Bueckert is charged with failing to yield to traffic on through highway and class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by qualified driver.
