The Columbus Blue Jackets returned Kole Sherwood to the OHL on Thursday but the right winger won’t be sticking with the London Knights this season.
Knights General Manager Rob Simpson traded Sherwood to the Flint Firebirds in exchange for two second round picks (2018 via Flint and 2019 via Owen Sound) and a conditional pick. The Knights will receive Oshawa’s second round selection in 2020 held by Flint if Sherwood plays one regular season or playoff game in his overage year.
“We would like to thank Kole for his time here with the London Knights,” said Simpson. “We wish him all of the best in Flint with the Firebirds.”
Sherwood, a New Albany, Ohio native was originally signed by the Knights as a free agent in 2015.
He scored 12 goals and added 22 assists for 34 points in 63 games during the 2015-2016 for the Knights.
The 6’1” right winger was developed through the Blue Jackets’ own development system.
“As an NHL signed player, Kole brings excellent size, skating and skills and the experience of being a part of a Memorial Cup winning team last season,” said Flint Firebirds General Manager George Burnett. “Kole had an excellent preseason with the Knights and continued to put up strong numbers for Columbus at the NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City.”
The London Knights host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday at Budweiser Gardens at 7:30 p.m. but coverage begins on AM980 at 6:30 p.m. with “Game Knight”. Tickets for the game are still available by calling 519-681-0800 ext 1 or go to www.londonknights.com for more info.
