While the London Beatles Festival will be filled with impressionists and cover bands, there will be one original among the crowd.
Joyce DiPierdomenico, a Londoner, was John Lennon’s first cousin. DiPierdomenico says her father and John’s father were brothers.
“I see the little boy, not the Beatle,” the 80-year-old told AM980, “We were actually the only two cousins, at the time, from the Lennon family… We spent a lot of time together as a family.”
DiPierdomenico has lived in London for 55 years, but before lived on the same street as John in England.
“John was no different than any four-year-old,” Joyce said after reminiscing of hiding under the covers on Christmas Eve with John, listening for Santa Claus.
John Lennon, along with Paul, George, and Ringo will have their music played on stages and at bars throughout the downtown over the course of the weekend. The free festival will run until Sunday. More info can be found here.
Money raised by the not-for-profit festival will benefit the Brain Injury Association London and Region.
Despite her connection to one of music’s greatest songwriters, DiPierdomenico says she’s basically tone deaf.
“But I have two kids who are very musical, and can sing very well.”
She said she might attend Saturday’s festivities “if time allows for it.”
A full interview with Joyce will be featured on The Pulse With Devon Peacock next week.
