Just in time for the arrival of fall, the cost of heating your home is about to rise.
The Ontario Energy Board has approved rate increases that will impact natural gas customers in the province. The increases were approved for Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., Natural Resource Gas Ltd. and Union Gas Ltd.
It’s estimated the typical Enbridge customer will see an increase of about $25 per year while the average Natural Resource Gas customer will pay an extra $22 per year.
Union Gas customers will see an even bigger increase. Customers in southern Ontario will see a $24 per year increase while customers in the rest of the province will see average increases of between $38 and $40.
The rates are effective Oct. 1st.
It won’t be the only increase for customers.
The implementation of the Ontario Liberal government’s cap-and-trade means bills will rise again next year. It’s expected the plan will tack on an extra $5 per month to home heating bills.
