Stories of struggle and perseverance are being shared Friday morning at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on King Street.
The 10th annual Addiction Recovery Breakfast will be held until 9:30a.m.
Sean McCann, who previously was in Great Big Sea, will be at the breakfast. He has struggled with addiction in the past.
He said the event helped him get through alcoholism and sexual abuse.
“It encouraged me to share my truth,” he said. “That has set me on a different path so I owe a great deal debt to the City of London and the Recovery Breakfast.”
He hopes residents who attend the event leave with a greater understanding of the challenges facing people who suffer from addiction and mental health issues.
“[The event] does great work in breaking down the stigma that’s unfortunately associated with addiction and mental health, and I think it’s one of those examples of people coming together to share focus and vision,” said McCann.
Organizers hope the event will raise awareness around addiction and recovery in the community.
