A London woman wants to help cancer patients pay for their parking in honour of her mom.
Jenni Holland has started a GoFundMe campaign with the hope of raising $5,000. She wants to use that money to pay for the parking for patients and family members at the London Regional Cancer Clinic at the Victoria Campus of the LHSC on April 16th, 2017.
April 16th would have been her mother Rita’s 60th birthday. Rita passed away due to cancer last month, after a three year battle with the illness.
“I remember being at the cancer clinic with her a lot,” Jenni Holland said on AM980’s Craig Needles Show on Thursday. “We were overhearing people talking about how it’s unfortunate that their family can’t come sit with them due to parking costs and even themselves having trouble paying the $12.”
That experience made Holland decide she wanted to help those people in honour of her mother – so she started “Park on Rita“.
“You can’t control if you get cancer or not and you can’t control how much money is in your bank account if you do,” Holland said. “If we can help, even just for one day, it can put a smile on somebody fighting for their life.”
Parking at the LHSC costs $12 for a day, or $14 for a pass that allows for in and out privileges.
Weekly passes are available for $45, while monthly passes can be purchased for $75.
