Training camp always gives players a chance to catch someone’s eye.
Defenceman Riley Coome and goaltender, Jordan Kooy managed to accomplish that with the London Knights and on Wednesday afternoon, it was announced that both have been signed to standard OHL player agreements.
Kooy is from Bradford and was London’s eighth round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. He spent last year with the Central Ontario Wolves of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association.
Coome was not drafted, but showed what he could do throughout three days of scrimmages and has been signed as a Free Agent. The 6’4 defenceman is from Dorchester and came up through the London Jr. Knights’ program. Coome also spent the GOJHL Pre-season with the London Nationals and put up a goal and two assists in four games.
The Knights will continue their own pre-season schedule Thursday night with a game in Clinton at the Central Huron Community Centre against the Erie Otters. London and Erie met last spring in the Western Conference finals. London swept that series on their way to a Memorial Cup Championship.
The game can be heard on AM 980 and www.am980.ca beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30.
The Knights are 1-1 in exhibition games so far after defeating the Sarnia Sting 5-1 on Friday at Budweiser Gardens and dropping a 5-3 decision in Sarnia on Saturday.
Following their game in Clinton, London will play a final tune-up game on Tuesday, September 13th at home to the Otters before starting the regular season in Sarnia on September 21st.
The Memorial Cup banner will be raised at the Knights’ home opener on the 23rd.
