At London City Hall Tuesday night, Councillors voted in favour of changes to rules surrounding granny suites.
The secondary dwelling units are one-bedroom apartments that can either be used for family or rented out.
Changes signed off on by council will allow more homeowners to add the suites to their properties, even in areas around Western University and Fanshawe College.
The changes take effect in November.
Also, Councillors backed beefed up protection for London’s trees.
Now any tree on private or public land that’s at least 50 cm in diameter will be protected and will require a permit before it can be chopped down.
