Provincial police say a 21-year-old male is dead and another person was sent to hospital following a house fire in Dorchester.
Middlesex County OPP say they responded to a fire call around 6 p.m. at 151 Oakwood Dr. in Dorchester Tuesday evening.
Police say the Dorchester Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and contained the fire. The Thames Centre Fire Department also appeared to be at the scene.
Jason Sherman, who grew up across the street from the house, was one of the first to reach the scene and rushed to see if he could help out.
“About 6:05 is when I headed over there and it was a bit frantic because the one gentleman had come out and said there was two people left in the house and they were stuck in the basement,” he said. “We tried to get access through the two doors but there was no way of getting in. There was just too thick of smoke.”

A release from OPP said that Middlesex-London EMS had taken two people to hospital, one person with life threatening injuries and another with non-life threatening injuries.
A 21-year-old male was listed as vital sign absent and the coroner was traveling to the scene.
OPP said they were working on notifying next of kin.
As a result of the fire, Oakwood Dr. was closed down for a number of hours Tuesday night.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. The county fire investigator is said to be looking into the incident.
The Ontario Fire Marshal is also expected to investigate.
