Soon after announcing details of the visitation and funeral for 27-year-old Nathan Deslippe, his family has released a statement through the London Police.
Two visitations are planned for Deslippe on Wednesday, followed by a funeral service on Thursday.
His family released a touching statement Tuesday, expressing their sorrow:
Nathan Deslippe was a beautiful kind caring soul who wanted only to help and motivate people. He inspired so many with his mentoring, guidance, encouragement, support and personal example.
His death is a tragedy. We are so sad to have lost a young man who had so much potential and meant a lot to so many people. The posts to his Facebook page are overwhelming in describing the son that we love so much. Nathan loved his family, his dog Gyzmo and his many friends. He excelled at his work at Voices.com, MLD Solutions Inc., Yoga Shack, and his leadership businesses. He achieved so much in his short time including his yoga certification, John Maxwell certification and more.
Nathan Deslippe is a bright light that has been dimmed but will always be remembered.
A makeshift memorial has been created at his desk at Voices.com. Co-founder and Chief Brand Officer Stephanie Ciccarelli tells AM980 she actually first met Deslippe when he was a boy and she was his sister’s singing teacher. She says staff are mourning more than the loss of a co-worker.
“Organically, I think people just started wanting to put notes down in remembrance of him. There are a number of cards that we had signed for his family, a lot of remembrances there. There’s even flowers, which is a really beautiful gesture. A long-stemmed rose. Because of the nature of our team here, it really was a significant loss for us.”
Ciccarelli adds that staff are remembering Deslippe in other unique ways.
“Everyone here would agree that Nathan was the snappiest dresser you have ever seen and something that he wore, and was kind of his signature thing, was that he had bowties. I don’t think anyone can really get away with wearing a bowtie the same way Nathan Deslippe could. In his honour, we’ve actually had some bowties here in the office. Some of the girls lovingly made them last night, and everyone is wearing them today in memory of Nathan.”
London Police also announced Tuesday afternoon that an autopsy that began at the London Health Sciences Centre the day before was ongoing and that members of the Criminal Investigation Division continue forensic examination of the scene.
London Police have identified Deslippe as the person whose body was found in an apartment at 323 Colborne St. on Sunday morning.
Officers have charged 27-year-old William Joles with second degree murder in his death.
Deslippe’s family has announced visitations will take place at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1997 Dundas Street East, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at St. Peter’s Basilica, 196 Dufferin Ave, at 10 a.m.
The investigation into Deslippe’s death is ongoing.
