Perth County OPP officials in Tavistock are seeking the driver of a compact black car that left the scene of a fatal accident late Tuesday night just west of Tavistock.
OPP say it was just before 11 p.m. when a car was travelling east on Perth Line 26 just west of Tavistock when the driver began to pass a van, even as another car was approaching from the opposite direction.
The driver of the approaching car, a Pontiac Grand Prix, had to veer onto the gravel shoulder to avoid the compact car and lost control.
It veered back onto the road and was t-boned on the passenger side by the van.
The 26-year-old man driving the Grand Prix died of his injuries in hospital while the 49-year-old Tavistock man driving the van suffered minor injuries.
OPP say the black compact car, possibly a Kia or Honda, failed to stop or remain at the scene and was last seen heading toward Tavistock.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact either Perth County OPP at 519-393-6123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
