The 16-year-old who swam like a fish in the pool and came away with four medals for Canada will play the starring role at Sunday night’s closing ceremony for the Rio Olympics.
The Canadian Olympic Committee named Penny Oleksiak its flag-bearer to lead the athletes into Maracana Stadium.
Oleksiak grabbed a bronze medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay on the first Saturday of competition, followed by a silver in the 100m butterfly, another relay bronze, and finally a gold in the 100m freestyle.
Heading into Sunday, Canada had 22 medals, four more than the 18 won in London four years ago.
Canada currently sits 10th in the overall medal count, fulfilling the goal of finishing in the top 12.
